… and it’s absolutely gorgeous!
Opening an email with a cover visual for my books is one of the highlights of the publishing process. Unashamedly, I’m a sucker for beautiful jackets and — for my sins — have bought many books on looks alone. I don’t believe it for a minute, when people say they don’t judge a book by its cover. We’re all human beings and the jacket is the first thing that makes you decide whether to stop at a crowded bookshop table or whether to meander on in search of the next thing that piques your interest.
With My Mother’s Shadow, I was struck by the different visual approaches taken by my international publishers, from dark to light, from rose-heavy to figure-centric, atmospheric, mysterious, romantic — it’s all there:
And now, excitingly, the cover journey is all starting over again, with the UK cover for Summer of Secrets. It takes a similar route to My Mother’s Shadow in that it features a girl, running into the image as if to draw you into the story. The colours are beautiful, the textures sumptuous, there’s water and skies, reds and blues, there’s beauty, mystery, a hint of menace. I really hope you love it as much as I do.
